Overview
To ensure clean, sharp, professional engraving, all artwork must meet the following technical requirements. Laser engraving is extremely precise — but it requires high‑quality, high‑contrast artwork to produce the best results.
These requirements apply to all engraving jobs, regardless of trade or product.
Accepted File Formats
- Vector formats (preferred): AI, EPS, SVG, PDF
- High‑resolution raster formats: PNG, TIFF
- Minimum resolution: 300 DPI
- Not accepted: JPG, GIF, screenshots, phone photos
Vector artwork produces the cleanest engraving and is recommended whenever possible.
Color & Contrast Requirements
- Black & white only (no grayscale)
- No gradients, shading, or soft edges
- High contrast between black and white areas
- All lines and shapes must be fully opaque
The laser interprets black as “engrave” and white as “do not engrave.” Clean, solid shapes produce the best results.
Line Thickness & Detail
- Minimum line thickness: 0.5 pt
- Minimum text size: 8 pt (depending on font)
- Avoid extremely thin fonts or hairline strokes
- Bold, simple designs engrave best
Text Requirements
- Convert all text to outlines (vector artwork)
- Use clean, readable fonts
- Avoid script fonts unless large and high‑contrast
- Check spelling, license numbers, and phone numbers carefully
Logos & Branding
- Provide the original vector logo whenever possible
- Remove backgrounds before sending
- Ensure all shapes are closed (no gaps)
- High‑resolution PNGs must be clean and not pixelated
Common Issues to Avoid
- Low‑resolution images (pixelation will engrave poorly)
- Shaded or gradient logos
- Thin lines that disappear when engraved
- Phone photos of business cards or trucks
- Logos pulled from websites or social media
